Moyenne Island Foundation Donates CCTV System to Ste. Anne Marine Park
On 5th December 2025, the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA) formally accepted the donation of a state-of-the-art CCTV network from the Moyenne Island Foundation. The handover ceremony was held at the Marine Operations Base in Perseverance, where SPGA CEO Mr. Allen Cedras officially received the contribution.
The cameras, installed at strategic vantage points across Moyenne Island overlooking Ste. Anne Marine National Park, will operate on a 24-hour basis, to provide real-time monitoring of critical areas. These include coral restoration sites, turtle nesting beaches, and high-traffic visitor zones. Park Officer Mr. Demien Mougal conducted a live demonstration of the system, showcasing its capabilities.
Mr. Cedras emphasized the importance of integrating technology into conservation efforts, stating: “We remain firm in our conviction that technology and conservation must go hand in hand. By linking these cameras to our EarthRanger surveillance and monitoring software, we now have access to real-time data and visuals of Ste. Anne Marine National Park—enabling faster response to incidents and reinforcing our ability to protect the park.”
Special Advisor to the Minister, Mr. Denis Matatiken, highlighted the broader significance of the initiative; “In a world where change is rapid and pressures on ecosystems intensify, real-time monitoring, rapid response, and data-driven decision-making become essential. The installation of these advanced CCTV surveillance systems reflects a strategic investment in the future of conservation and demonstrates a forward-looking approach that embraces innovation and recognizes the vital role of technology in protecting our ecosystems.”
On his side, Mr. Suketu Patel, Chairman of the Moyenne Island Foundation, underscored the legacy of the Foundation and its commitment to marine conservation, a legacy, which began 12 years ago with the establishment of the trust by Mr. Grimshaw. “The Trust has enabled us to support crucial initiatives such as this. Moyenne cannot thrive if the sea around it is not. The Foundation invested approximately SCR 235,000 in this project, recognizing that real-time surveillance provides SPGA with a powerful tool to identify and prevent illegal activities within the Park.”
This partnership marks a significant step forward in strengthening the protection of Ste. Anne Marine Park, ensuring that conservation and innovation continue to work hand in hand for the benefit of Seychelles’ marine heritage.
