50 Years of the Ste. Anne Marine Park, 1973 – 2023

Situated about 5km from the main island of Mahé, the stunning Ste. Anne Marine Park comprising of six islands: Ste Anne, Ile Moyenne, Ile Ronde, Ile Longue, Ile Cachee and Ile aux Cerfs, celebrated its golden jubilee on Sunday 19th March 2023. This Marine Park plays an important role in the natural and cultural heritage of Seychelles. Ste. Anne and its neighboring islands were decreed a Marine Park on the 19th March 1973, making it one of the first protected marine areas in the Indian Ocean. The park covers an area of 14.53 km2 and is a sanctuary for sea turtles and seagrass.

To commemorate this historic milestone, a guided kayak tour was organized to help raise awareness on the biodiversity and ecosystem of the Marine Park. Supported by NSC, guests were able to kayak through the crystal clear waters of the park, as well as snorkel on the vibrant coral reefs. Participants included the Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment Mr. Flavien Joubert, SPGA Board of Directors Members, SPGA CEO, DCEO and staff members, Mont Fleuri DA and Eco-School members.
