Anchor Responsibly, Protect Our Reefs
Anchor Responsibly, Protect Our Reefs
Respect the buoys, anchor responsibly and be part of the solution to protect our coral reefs!
With the arrival of the North-West monsoon, Baie Laraie and Anse Papaie have become some of the most popular snorkeling spots in the Curieuse Marine Park. These areas also host our coral restoration sites.
Sadly, all three of our coral restoration sites have been impacted by frequent unauthorised anchoring directly on the reef. This has caused serious damage to the restoration structures, whereby fish trap frames, re-bars, and reef stars have been flipped and many corals have broken off.
We therefore urge all park users to kindly respect designated anchoring and mooring zones within the Park. To support this, our team has installed new demarcation buoys to guide boat operators and protect these restoration areas.
