Aldabra Giant Tortoise Census - Absa Bank Seychelles

Aldabra Giant Tortoise Census - Absa Bank Seychelles

For the second time, volunteers from Absa Bank Seychelles joined our team in conducting the Aldabra Giant Tortoise Census on Curieuse Island. This important activity helps us understand the distribution of these iconic giants across the Island.

Volunteers covered more remote areas such as Grand Anse, Anse Caïman, and the mangrove forest. So far, 16 tortoises have been recorded, predominantly female. Each was carefully measured, their sex identified and tagged. To support our long-term monitoring the data was also captured within our EarthRanger platform.

Beyond the data, the Census offered volunteers an educational and rewarding experience—deepening their knowledge, while contributing directly towards conservation.

The Census continues this weekend with volunteers from another trusted partner.
