Strengthening Regional MPA Collaboration Through the Hifadhi Blu Cohort Workshop

In the lead-up to the 13th Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) Symposium, our team joined the Hifadhi Blu Cohort Workshop—focused on strengthening peer learning and site-level action. We were able to connect with fellow participants from across the Western Indian Ocean region, all beneficiaries of the Hifadhi Blu Grant.

The Hifadhi Blu Programme, a four-year initiative led by WIOMSA in partnership with the Minderoo Foundation, is dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of ocean conservation areas throughout the WIO region.

The workshop offered a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and insights with other marine protected area professionals—building regional solidarity and shared learning.

Through this project, SPGA is focused on boosting staff capacity in data collection, utilization, and monitoring—key pillars for improving operational efficiency and ensuring long-term success in MPA governance.
