SPGA Advances Green List Ambitions at IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025

The Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA) is proud to announce its active participation in the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025, currently underway in Abu Dhabi. Representing Seychelles on the global stage, SPGA CEO Mr. Allen Cedras is engaging with international conservation leaders to champion marine protected area excellence.

At the heart of SPGA’s engagement are two proposed Green List sites: Curieuse Marine National Park and Ste Anne Marine National Park. These iconic locations are undergoing formal assessment under the IUCN Green List Standard—a globally recognized benchmark for effective, equitable, and resilient protected area management.

During the Congress, SPGA’s Green List team contributed to dynamic discussions on the motivations behind pursuing Green List status, the tangible benefits for site management, and the broader significance for Seychelles and the Western Indian Ocean region. The listing process not only reinforces SPGA’s commitment to conservation excellence but also positions Seychelles as a regional leader in sustainable marine governance.
