Women In Marine Science Feature: Ms. Lya Docteur - Deputy CEO

In commemoration of the International Womens Day, our very own Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Ms, Lya Docteur has featured in the WIOMSA Women in Marine Science Tribute.

Starting her career in the finance sector, Ms. Docteur ventured into the marine space two years ago as the Head of Finance at the newly formed SPGA, where she achieved notable milestones in ensuring its financial sustainability. Her outstanding contributions to SPGA include the innovative Seychelles Green Footprint Project, which involves endemic and native reforestation in degraded forests to address climate change, and the upcoming Coral Festival to enhance coral reef climate awareness.

Lya notes her vision for the future: "As a young professional, I would like to see more young women in the Western Indian Ocean pursuing a career in conservation, be it an administrative or technical post, as the importance is to contribute towards a better tomorrow. As women, we must continue striving to advocate marine conservation for future generations."
