Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority Launches New Strategic Plan for 2022-2026

As a newly formed corporate body, ignited from the merger of the Seychelles National Parks Authority and the National Botanical Garden Foundation, SPGA has officially shared its Strategic Plan to partners and stakeholders. Entrusted with managing the six Marine National Parks, 2 Terrestrial National Parks, one Special Reserve and 3 Protected Gardens, SPGA recognizes the key role and expertise which its possesses in conserving such unique environment.

It is through the support and commitment of all stakeholders who play a crucial role in cementing and enforcing SPGA projects and initiatives that the detailed Strategic Plan has been formulated. Based off in-depth consultation between stakeholders and the SPGA management, the Plan will spearhead conservation and protection activities, education and awareness programs and overall sustainable management plans and practices adopted.

SPGA firmly stands as the largest Protected Area Management Organisation in the Seychelles, creating a strong pillar for the determination and commitment in ensuring that the marine and terrestrial protected areas, parks and gardens are successfully managed for the benefit of all. Organizational mandates establish the guidelines to sustainable protection, conservation and management of such fragile environments, and is further supported by the vision and mission statements which articulates the aspirations and duty of the organization.

Four main priority strategies; Targeted and Strategic Conservation, Resourcefulness, Financial Autonomy, and Financial soundness have been identified to guide SPGA towards achieving its 5 year benchmarks for all protected areas, whilst simultaneously reaching the unifying conservation goal that by 2026, 70% of all protected parks and gardens in Seychelles will be secure from a conservation perspective and financially sustainable.

The Strategic Plan 2022-2026 serves as a primary guide to staff and stakeholders, showcasing the intent and direction of propelling the organization towards towering heights and ensuring that the vision and mission statements are translated into incredible accomplishments for SPGA.
